Peyia, over the ages, has grown up around a natural spring, kown locally and affectionaely as "Spring of Peyia Women".
Today the spring is protected by a stoned arch structure. At the gateway to the Akamas Peninsula, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and overlooking a delightful cove and the clear turquoise waters of the Mediterranean are the most spectacular sea caves of Cyprus, known as Kantarkasti Caves of Peyia.
Myth and legend suround their origins but, in reality, it is the very gradual erosion by the sea that has formed these open caves some of which have formed an internal labyrinth.
