Over the years more and more flights from an ever increasing numbers of countries are operating into Larnaca and Paphos international airports.
During the summer season from April to October, there are many charter flights coming directly from regional airports in UK in addition to the scheduled services already well established from the major European city airports and other continents.
2007 and 2008 saw the advent of ‘no frills' airlines on the routes, boosting the opportunities for hundreds of ex pats living as residents on the island to visit UK and vice versa.
These new services were launched at significantly reduced costs, as opposed to the previously relatively expensive flights, prompting other carriers to reduce their prices at various times of the year in competition.
The island hopes this will boost both potential property purchasers' travel and the influx of tourism in the future.
Both airports have been totally revamped and partially rebuilt to cater for this expected increase in international travellers and to modernise all airside and terminal side facilities.
To match these services, the tourism infrastructure needs more Government investment to compete on the world stage, particularly since the revenues contribute so much to the GDP of the country.
The new President needs to keep this high on his agenda if Cyprus is to catch up with other tourist and foreign property ownership countries in the world.
